How Asia Work!

If you want to grow as a business, go to the East! The current economic crisis has shown that significant growth will no longer be available in the saturated economic regions of the West.

The future clearly belongs to the global community of medium-sized businesses! The path to Asia can, however, end in disaster for Western entrepreneurs if they approach the new and foreign markets expecting it to live up to their own standards and experiences. This book will help them: It answers the questions facing every medium-sized business looking to enter the Asian market or is already present there: Which products are really in demand in Asia? How do I find out that as a Western entrepreneur? What are the legal and economic policies? Where can they go to find information and network with others? The first part of the book imparts fundamental information that is useful on an international scale. The second part covers individual countries with their respective specialties: China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Highly experienced Westerners living in Asia joined together to make this book. Dr. Gunter Denk and Tim Cole gained as Co-Authors Bangkok Lawyer Andreas Richter, China Expert Dr. Hanne Seelmann-Holzmann and Beijing Lawyer Richard Hoffmann, India Consultant Klaus Maier, from Vientiane Chamber Secretary Dr. Ramon Bruesseler, from Malaysia Chamber Manager Thomas Brandt, and from Jakarta the Head of German Business Center Jochen Sautter. Following the 9thConsultation between the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) and the EU
Commissioner for Trade held in Da Nang, Vietnam on 27 August 2010, it was agreed and prompted
that the 1st ASEAN - EU Business Summit (AEBS) would be held in Jakarta, Indonesia on 5 May 2011.
The inaugural AEBS will be spearheaded by the Ministry of Trade of Republic of Indonesia, the
European Union (EU) and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN–BAC) in coordination with
the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) respectively.
The Business Summit seeks to bring together entrepreneurs as well as public and private investors
from both ASEAN and EU to address critical issues related to EU – ASEAN trade relations, while
identifying new business and investment opportunities on both sides. The Summit is a good
opportunity in which the business community can directly voice their views and concerns to ASEAN
Trade and Economic Ministers and EU Trade Commissioner.
